Boy, was I wrong.

Please don’t be like me.

If you get one thing out of this Vert Shock review, I hope it’s the fact that you need to reach out to others who have been there and done that so you can acquire their expertise and get yourself where you need to be.

What is Vert Shock?

Vert Shock is a comprehensive training program designed to help athletes increase their vertical jump.

This vertical jump training program is based on years of research and testing, and it has been used by thousands of athletes worldwide.

Vert Shock is broken down into three phases, each focusing on different aspects of vertical jump training.

The first phase is the Pre-Shock Phase, which is designed to prepare your body for the upcoming training. The second phase is the Shock Phase, which is the core of the program. The final phase is the Post-Shock Phase, which is designed to help your body recover from the intense training of the previous six weeks.

I’ll go over these three phases a bit more in-depth later on in the post.

Who Created Vert Shock?

Vert Shock complex training was created by Adam Folker, a former professional basketball player who played Division 1 on a full scholarship, and Justin ‘Jus Fly’ Darlington, a world-renowned dunker.

Folker and Darlington utilized years of research and testing to develop the 3-phase step-by-step program that targets your nervous system and involves high-intensity plyometric exercises. It includes strength training and muscle activation drills and helps your body recover from the intense workouts.

The program features workout charts, instructional videos, and access to online support from the creators of the program and a community of athletes who are using the program to improve their vertical jump.

If you’re serious about improving your vertical jump and learning how to dunk a basketball, Vert Shock is definitely worth considering and is one of the best vertical jump programs out there.

Vert Shock Structure

Pre Shock Phase

Think of this as a prep phase. Just like a chef making a meal who has to prepare ingredients like dicing tomatoes, grating cheese, and putting oil in the pan, this phase will get your body ready for the Shock Phase, which is a more physical part of the program.

This phase is huge because it gets your body ready and helps to prevent future injuries. It takes up the first week of the program.

Shock Phase

Here’s the meat and bones of the Vert Shock training. This phase goes from week 2-7.

It includes the main exercises that strengthen your legs, which allow you to explode off the ground. In this phase, you’ll be doing jump technique drills along with leg-strengthening exercises and plyometrics.

Post-Shock Phase

The post-shock phase is the last week of your training. This puts the finishing touches on the program.

It’s an intense week of 6 days of exercise. Make sure to warm up well during this last week, as the prior seven weeks of exercise will have your legs feeling very stiff.

Vert Shock Exercises

Pre Shock Phase Exercises

If you’ve been sitting around on the couch and not doing much, this first week will definitely be a shock. (Pun intended.)

The workouts last about an hour, including both the warm up and cool-down time.

This phase is 6 workouts in 7 days and consists of seated jumps, tuck jumps, hill sprints, and lateral jumps. Adam will explain all of the workouts for each phase, so you don’t have to worry if none of these exercises sound familiar.

Shock Phase Exercises

From weeks 2-7, you’ll be focusing on fast-twitch muscle fibers. These muscles will help you get off the ground quicker and higher while also building your ability to explode again off the ground right after you land.

The exercises in this phase include deep squats, sprints, planks, and depth-jumps.

Your legs will definitely feel the burn during this phase. To avoid injuries, listen to your body and take an extra day or two of rest if you feel it is needed.

Post Shock Phase Exercises

This phase will be very similar to the first week pre shock phase. You’ll be doing an estimated 660 jumps!

This is the time to be building your jumping muscle memory. The rep count is high, I know, but this is the final push to get you jumping out of the gym and hopefully get your first dunk if you haven’t ever dunked before!
